Fenix 500 lumen headlamp for night hiking

Lightweight little headlamp that doesn’t wobble around when you are wearing it. The Fenix HM50R model has a maximum lumen output of 500, coming from a Cree XM-L2 U2 LED bulb that runs on a rechargeable 16340 battery. It can also use disposable CR123A batteries as backups if you embark on longer journeys. This headlamp is actually a tiny flashlight strapped to the headband, so if you ever need a small flashlight, you can just take this one off and use that, pretty handy. Built to withstand cold temperatures, so using the Fenix HM50R in the winter on cold days won’t be a problem. The included battery is a disposable CR123A battery, which cant be recharged. If you want a rechargeable 16340 battery you gotta order that separately. You can find links to that in our flashlight battery guide. Great buyer ratings with 4.5 out of 5 stars. Fenix HM50R headlamp

Here is a review video of the Fenix HM50R headlamp

There are 3 brightness settings to toggle between, low, medium, and high. As you can see in the video below, the brightness on high is quite impressive for a lamp this size. Easy to fit in the pocket too

Fenix HM50R summary with price and store page link

If you are looking for a small, yet bright, headlamp for your night strolls, this one is a great choice. Being able to detach the flashlight from the headband is a plus too, giving you the option to either use it as an actual headlight or as a tiny flashlight. Easy to recharge as well with a USB cable, but be sure you have a rechargeable 16340 battery, and not the included disposable CR123A battery. Fenix went a bit cheap on this part, including a rechargeable 16340 battery instead of the disposable probably wouldn’t have cost much
